About The Artwork

I think "The Root of Time No.3" is reflective of my inquiry into the metaphysics of time. There is time as motion and also psychological time of thought which includes memories of past perceptions and future hopes, desires and expectations. There is measured time in relativity physics which is dependent on the location of the observer. Time implies motion - without motion, time could not be measured. I feel it is possible that the operation of psychological time can be observed in its entirety through a heightening of awareness. This sculpture is like a visual poem working as metaphor for this inquiry into the mystery of time. A minimalistic approach was taken with this piece. I wanted to bring out the strength of the subtleties of curve and interacting parts. The goal was to find a form which could sit in harmony with the space surrounding it and to draw in the viewer's attention with a sense of open silence. Here, two pieces of wood were joined together with coordinated grain. The grain pattern serves to enhance the movement of the piece in a pulsing or rippling way. The smooth surface is left natural and bare enabling the closest of interaction with the raw material. If you look closely under ample lighting conditions, there is a glistening on the surface of the western red cedar.
