This work conveys the sense of complete joy and freedom experienced in childhood play. As children, we love playing “aeroplane”, being spun around by grownups, carried on their shoulders, and swayed between them like hammocks. This sculpture is a tribute to parents and caregivers who show kids what it feels like to fly. To trust and play with wild abandon. Aeroplane is a work that expresses gratitude to the loving parents and guardians who enable kids to live openly and fully. It is a ‘thank you’ to those who plant the seeds of lifelong self-belief and teach their kids how to let go and laugh. Please note that the lost wax casting process is lengthy and this work has been in demand so it may take up to three months to complete for shipment.

South Africa
Landia Davies is a contemporary South African sculptress. Her sculptures are about the power of vulnerability. They are invitations to cherish naivety and value playfulness in the midst of complexity and adversity. Her current body of work is about celebrating our raw human emotions and forging our individual identities with disregard (even defiance) for tidy labels and categories. Landia wants the viewer to ask "What is it?" and hopefully find that defining the form is not as important as feeling its state of being. Gender and genus don't really matter. Currently, Landia works near Swellendam in the Western Cape.
