Each glass piece is unique, hand made cut, fused and formed in a kiln on high temperature (750 C) and grinded.
The "Archiblocks" ensemble consist of 3 big and 5 small art pieces.
The formed glass and raw concrete matches perfectly to each other and create organic combination of materials, roughness, porosity and shape.
The glass tops are 100% strongly inserted in concrete with bolts while it has been stiffening. Bolts go through the holes in glass, insert the concrete and the whole art piece is safely fixed together. No glue used.

About The Artwork

Feel secure ordering from my Saatchi account - I am in a safe city during the war in Ukraine and I continue my work as an artist. Archiblocks consist of 8 objects that combine contrasting shapes and properties of glass and concrete. Carrying out applied manipulations with each of them (read - intervention in material’s nature) - processing by high temperatures, dilution with water, manual molding - turns their primary [archi] essences into a new combination, the only symbol of which is an ‘archiblock’. Interference in the nature of things creates a field for interpretations, the opportunity to connect the newly formed symbol/form/content with its existing understanding and thus obtain a new point of view on simple things. This artwork was exhibited at Korsak`s museum of modern Ukrainian art in Lutsk (both online and offline in a museum) in 2020 at the "Immunity" art exhibition. Materials: glass, adhesive mixture (type of concrete), acrylic spray paint, bolts. Technique: fusing. Dimensions of 3 large objects: 170 * 60 * 60 mm Dimensions of 5 small objects: 120 * 50 * 50 mm. The glass tops are 100% strongly inserted in concrete with bolts while it has been stiffening. Bolts go through the holes in glass, insert the concrete and the whole art piece is safely fixed together. No glue used.

Sofiia Korotkevych, 28, is an artist based in Lviv. In her art, she explores ways to interact with the natural qualities of the materials she uses. Rather than adjust them to fit her vision, she allows their physical properties to unfold naturally. She sees a philosophy in intervening with the materials, drawing analogies to life itself.
