In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to hold up the celestial heavens for eternity after the Titanomachy. Atlas also plays a role in the myths of two of the greatest Greek heroes: Heracles (the Roman equivalent being Hercules) and Perseus. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, Atlas stood at the ends of the earth in extreme west. Later, he became commonly identified with the Atlas Mountains in northwest Africa and was said to be "King of Mauretania". Atlas was said to have been skilled in philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy. In antiquity, he was credited with inventing the first celestial sphere. In some texts, he is even credited with the invention of astronomy itself. Did you know? From the Latin word sculpere, the word sculpture literally means to carve. Sculpture artists create three-dimensional figures and forms that you can walk around or relief 3-D artworks that rise above a flat plane. Artists use multiple methods and techniques to create 3-D works, including carving, casting, modeling or a construction method that includes assembling various materials into a 3-D object. Some sculptures, called kinetic sculptures, even have moving parts. Where is the largest sculpture on earth? The world's tallest statue is nearing completion in India. It is designed to be a 182m (600ft) high tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a hero in India's independence struggle, in Gujarat state. My name is Giannis I was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in 1978, but I'm Greek. I spent most of my childhood in Kinshasa until I was 12 when I moved to Athens. I studied electrical engineering and later art restoration in Athens, where I currently live and work. I work as a digital marketer with exertiese on SEO & Google Ads. As an artist, I'm a self-taught metal sculptor, and my primary medium is industrial metal scrap parts. My artwork reflects my interest in exploring the relationship between humans and modern industrial society. I find inspiration in human-centered themes, such as motherhood, and the materials I use, which come from contemporary industrial society. Through my art, I examine the contradiction between human nature and the automated society and the challenges that arise as a result. I'm particularly interested in the position of man within this society and the impact it has on the human experience. Since 2000, I've had my workshop in Athens, where I continue to live and work. In addition to my artistic pursuits, I also work as a digital marketer.
