Take a tactile meditation moment with this book art sculpture: your blood pressure will thank you! ‘Breathe’ features hand and machine-sewn thick fabric pages with raised ‘windows’, each inlaid with a single word handpainted on rectangular white shell beads. A collection of linked Latin mottos seemed apt for our high-stress times: Dum Spiro Spero. Dum Spero Amo. Dum Amo Vivo. Dum Vivo Prosum. Translation on inside front and back cover: 'While I breathe, I hope. While I hope, I love. While I love, I live. While I live, I do good'. Modified sewn binding fabric and shell pages, woodburned and painted Poplarwood covers with white and blue porcelain beads, and 7″ ornamental glass beaded tassel anchors along spine. Colorways: dark blue, light blue, tan, white, purple, green

I create art under the name Marian Crane (go ahead, I'm immune to the inevitable jokes because I adore Hitchcock movies.) I write and blog under the names Crane Hana, M. Crane Hana, and M. C. Hana (but they're all me, really.) I was born in northwestern New Mexico, and grew up surrounded by the spectacular landscapes, colors, and cultural blends of the American Southwest. My mixed-media paintings, fiber collages, wearable art, jewelry, and book art sculptures are inspired by my love of history, science, folk art, myth, and invention. I am fascinated with the human tendency to mix ornament and function. Since I’m a theatrical prop and artifact geek, too, I love making objects that appear as if they came out of a ‘real’ fantasy or science-fiction culture.
