Basalt is a volcanic hard rock. It was often used for road construction. It's a challenge for a sculptor because of its hardness. Basalt does not actually occur my area. I found the almost cubic piece in a nearby forest, where it was probably once part of a path. It was transported by bicycle, which reached its load limits. It was the idea to combine the cubic form with an organically stretched saddle surface, which received a strong impact with the stone's original fracture points. But the stone broke while working. Instead of abandoning the project, I joined the two fragments together in such a way that a gap remains. Stainless steel pieces serve as spacers. It is probably only through this process that the stone sculpture received its very own expression. The new sculpture was then mounted on a granite block. The elevation is included with this block.

First I wanted to become a scientist but than I studied fine arts. I'm working as a sculpor and painter but sometimes there are also land-art projects. I'm teaching at a small artschool for young people at Donaueschingen. My artworks seems to be abstract, but there is a inspirition from nature. I'm often on the way observing their colors and shapes Also mathematics and music plays an important role. Sometimes I use wood and stones to make improvised music.
