About The Artwork
Versión escultórica de la figura “Carro de Mérida”, Data del siglo VI a. c., dicha escultura se encontró en la casa de Meleagro en Mérida y en 1930 fue cedida al estado francés. Actualmente el original se conserva en el Museo de Saint Germain en Laye de París Escena de caza que consta de un carro de cuatro ruedas, sobre el que hay una placa que sujeta a un jinete con casco y lanza montando un caballo y persiguiendo un jabalí con ayuda de dos perros, uno de ellos perdido. El caballo y la parte posterior del carro llevan colgados cencerros. La postura del jinete y la actitud del caballo, producen sensación de carrera. El jinete se encuentra inclinado sobre el cuello del animal, levantado de la silla, con las piernas recogidas, el brazo derecho echado hacia atrás, para asestar un golpe a la fiera, y el izquierdo a la altura de las orejas del caballo, que las tiene echadas hacia delante. Los perros, que van a los lados del caballo llevan collar y la boca abierta y el jabalí va delante de los perros con la lengua fuera. El grupo tiene una gran viveza y movimiento.
