Crazy Carousel Horse Carving Sculpture

This Crazy Carousel Horse Carving is carved out a single piece of spalted Maple knot that came from northern lower Michigan. The knot was cut down and shipped to me in Florida where I prepared it by killing the burrowing insects and removing them, filling the holes, allowing the wood to cure after removing the bark. Then the carving process began which took nearly two years on and off. There is lots of fine detail down to his nostrils and the bottom of his hooves. He is called Crazy Carousel Horse because his anatomy twists and turns into the twist of the wood right down to the twist, turn and slight bend of the carousel pole. All of the markings of the horse were already in the wood itself, the only thing that has been pyro-etched is my signature which is on the back side that I chose to leave mostly natural to show what the original knot looked like. Some of the insect holes can be seen throughout the carving as well as strokes from my carving tools. It is mounted on a marble square with felt pads on the underside.
