I thought of alchemical explorations as a quest for knowledge and an attempt to understand the world and creation when I worked on this soft sculpture. Alchemists used non precious materials with a desire to yield precious silver or gold - I used my own clothes and bed linens ripped by my husband and me in the heat of passion as building blocks for this interactive piece. It grew and it grew - more allegorical it became when completed, and you may use your own ideas and allusions to make this artwork your own. It only serves as a vehicle for your imagination. And your playfulness: Diana the doll is quite pliable and is fully capable of coming up with the most audacious acrobatic leaps of faith.

All hand-stitched, textile elements are stuffed with cotton, some are equipped with wire for bending, some are driftwood or wood branches inside their fabric clothes. The doll has soft wire bones so she can bend her knees and elbows. She is fully aware of her mimicry skills when she hides in the tree branches.

The artwork is lightweight and hangs on a nail; you may find other anchors if you so prefer.

About The Artwork

I used my clothes to shape my building blocks for this interactive piece - you can play with Diana and let her explore her world to her delight. It serves as a perfect vehicle for your playful imagination and joy: Diana the doll is quite pliable and is fully capable of coming up with the most audacious acrobatic leaps of faith. All hand-stitched, textile elements are stuffed with cotton, some are equipped with wire for bending, some are driftwood or wood branches inside their fabric clothes. Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation. https://www.instagram.com/gone_with_chinook/
