This is a repeat pattern appolied to a slab of clay.Red, blue and clear glass has been melted in the carved out recesses and in addition to the use of underglazes, the whole piece has then been covered in a clear crazed glaze. The work is designed ideally to be either displayed on a plate holder, or it could be mounted on a wooden base or within a bespoke frame. This is one of a number of such panels and tiles displayed on my website. These include some larger than this particular one as well as many smaller ones examples, many of which have melted and glass fused to the clay. These tiles and panels can be incorporated in back splashes or ceramic tiles within a bathroom, etc. The making of one of these panels, from start to finish, can easily take 20-25 hours of work. First a slab of clay has to be rolled out, then there's the drawing out of the pattern followed by the carving out of the shapes. After the first firing, underglazes, crushed glass and a clear glaze are all applied. The piece is then fired for a second time in a process known as the 'glost' or glaze firing

I have been a ceramicist for more than 30 years. 99% of my work is made using coils, slabs and pinch pots with the occasional use of extruded forms and aslip casting. The emphasis of my work is scupltural and ornamental rather than utlitarian. I have a particular interest in the fusing and melding of glass to ceramics and this body of work is collected from as far afield as the Middle East and USA.
