About The Artwork

The sculpture with the title Dress rappresents a simple Origami paper folding translated in stone. My point of interest is to transfer the sense of lightness of a sheet of paper to a for nature heavy material as stone, to fold the stone. In this specific sculpture I even tried to develop one step more: paper becomes fabbric by the application of of the precise texture. This reminds not only to the traditionally used decorated Origami papers, but also to the actual subjekt; a dress. The texture I use is the Lily of Florence, the ideal rappresentation of an iris blossom, symbol of purity, fertility, procreation, birth and rebirth. the second element that completes the sculpture is a origami lily. i was delighted by the idea to connect two different cultures and traditions by the symbol of the flower.

Verena Mayer Tasch uses symbolic fragments which origin in a very personal and intimate experience, evoking emotions and feelins which she transforms into sculptural images using a universal and essential formal language. Her artistic research addresses the theme of the various cycles of life and examines the quest ion of circularity implicit in nature and human history. With the help of minimalist objects such as toys (spinning tops, pinwheels, small boats, butterflies, origami folds), she deals with the th eme of happiness as a state of wholeness belonging to the age of childhood, inviting to reclaim this collective memory for a better living of the present.
