After returning from 2 years living in Japan i began work on a series of sculptures incorporating glass and gold leaf, giving the pieces a dimension beyond form. The influence of Japanese aesthetic is fully evident in this next phase of art, which was a complete break away from my earlier realistic work.
The pieces are meditative and contemplative in nature for the viewer, drawing immediate visual attention yet allowing the mind rest there.

Working in art for me is process of opening and receptivity and at the same time a path of discovery of the unknown. There is a Japanese word Ma (間) which can be roughly translated as "gap", "space", "pause" . It is best described as a consciousness of place, not in the sense of an enclosed three-dimensional entity, but rather the simultaneous awareness of form and non-form.
