Goddess Manasa Sculpture

An exemplary work of traditional indian art perfected here by R. Mani. Inspired by women figures of world famous Khajuraho Temple, R. Mani skilfully created his own masterpiece - Godess Manasa . She is one of the deities in Hinduism, also known as Snake Goddess. She is worshipped in India for fertility and prosperity. Godess Manasa - The Godess of Propserity Manasa is a goddess of snakes, daughter of Lord Shiva, and sister of God Vasuki, king of nagas or serpents. Generally represented as a wrathful deity, she is known for her independent prowess and attitude. Symbolically, the figure of the goddess Manasa is sheltered by the canopy of a seven-headed Cobra. She either stands or sits on lotus or swan, and sometimes holds her son named Astika. Associated with the cure of snakebite, she is also worshipped as a goddess of fecundity and prosperity in Bengal and Jharkhand, states in India. Thus, she is known through the names of vishahara or destroyer of snake poison, nitya or eternal, and Padmavati, or lotus goddess. Artist - R. Mani ( Chenai, India) R. Mani born in 1965 , is originally from Mahabalipuramlocated in Tamil Nadu state, South India. Influenced by Gupta and Kushan art periods, the artist specialises on traditional Indian Gods and Godesses. His inspiration is often sourced from world famous historic temples like Khajuraho and Meenakshi. R. Mani uses traditional Indian materials such as Sandstone, Granite and Soft stone. Mani was brought up surrounded by art. His father, Dhruva Pratap was a well-known sculptor and maintained and restored the sculptures of the famous Konark Temple in South India, passing on his skills to his son. Holder of two awards from the President of India, he is especially well known for his Buddha sculptures. He imbues his Buddha faces with such serenity and a sense of blissfulness that it’s no surprise they are used by so many to assist in deep meditation in some of the leading meditation centres around the world.
