About The Artwork

I created similar piece the previous year for a solo exhibition in London and wanted to create a similar piece for an up and coming show again in London, but on a larger scale. The concept or idea was simply to replicate a large piece of smashed, mangled concrete, paint the design on to it and then suspend the art within a gallery environment creating a unique powerful illusion for the viewer. The influence for this piece was Michelangelo’s David but applying modern styles and techniques to give a completely different look, the sub title then became “David 2021”. The piece ultimately became the title of my solo show “Hello Gorgeous” There are many materials used to create this piece including timber, plywood, gypsum, gravel, sand, pebbles, Neon lighting, reinforcing steel bar, and my favourite ingredient man made diamonds, over 300 man made diamond of varying sizes have been worked into the surface giving a spectacular experience when lit with spot lights correctly. The art piece can be wall mounted provided its not a stud wall, or suspended providing the ceiling can take the weight.

Taking urban art to a new level, the edgy style of Ellis draws on 30 years of experience in creative graphic design. His passion for art was obvious at a young age. School assembly was often adorned with his paintings of Kings and Queens of England. He went on to be influenced by artists such as: Antoni Tàpies, Mark Rothko and Andy Warhol. Today, Ellis is a devotee of street art. He brings its immediacy and rawness into his painting and sculpture. His work ranges from the abstract to the satirical, and is often a humorous commentary on modern life. A wide range of materials are employed to produce the complex texture and patination of his art. The limited edition prints differ in look from the originals, however each edition has been worked on intensively to achieve the same depth and impact.
