Hypnos in Greek mythology is the personification of sleep. It was a goddess that could put all the gods and all humans to sleep. He ran dry and sea, depriving people of their senses, offering as a gift the sleep that reliefs from suffering.
In ancient art, Sleep is depicted as a naked young man, sometimes with feathers on his head, or as a sleeping man on a feather bed.
My very own version of ''Hypnos'' is inspired both from the ancient world and my perception on sleep itself.
---------------------------------------
'Hypnos'' is sculpted using white cement and marble dust. This combination enhanced the sculpture with an effect of spark and purity. Finalising the sculpture, some colors are applied on the surface, reflecting my emotions in the best way possible.

Alexandros Moudiotis is a London-based artist that finds most of his inspiration from the peculiarity of human growth. His work stems from the different perspectives and notions that different phases in human life come with various appreciations towards life. His work, put human forms at the center of his storytelling, by revealing their emotional reflection through sculpture and drawing. Born in Greece, as a reminiscent of his origins, his art often revisits the Greek Mythology in a way to derive new meanings to everyday activities. His sculpture Hypnos, from Childlike collection (2018) for instance is a reference to sleep and its derived perception by a child’s perspective, making the action of sleeping a magical journey to the dreamland. In his art, he models with clay, leading up to the final result with off-concrete or concrete plaster and/or bronze.
