About The Artwork

In these pieces I push the possibilities of construction of ceramic sculpture to the limit in technical terms; Raw clay shapes are fused with fired and annealed pieces, the smooth, organic lines of hand-shaped parts complemented by breaks and cuts. At a formal level, each piece presents (essentially) two ways of treating ceramics, the gesture is opposed to the technique and in that dialectic a body is regenerated above these two ideas. Its parts are regrouped to constitute a new organism without a fixed representation, but rather its forms flow naturally without trying to identify itself. The work is ready to be installed on the wall, its back contains folds to support the sculpture with a screw or nail. This work is part of the Es Natural series published in: https://oscarbarbery.com/es-natural/

In the relationship between the forms there is a narrative of proximity, of contact, of encounter, and it is probable that this narrative is not only composed of concepts but fundamentally of sensations. In Oscar Barbery's work, sculpture is the verb, it is the action and it is the subject, its formal constitution is the result of representations of the self-determined movement of matter: undefined bodies that attract, compose and project themselves. The relationship between them suggests a new nature or an amplified nature.
