Quite a few years back I was given a jackdaw in a cage. I got to know the bird rather well.
Initially, the bird was pleased to see me and cowered and raised it head feathers to allow me to caress it on the head, a bit like you do with a cat. However, after a week or two the bird took on the same pose, and without raising it's headfeathers, pecked me visciously in my hand.
I got the message and trained it to fly again. One day it flew off for good.
I made a version of the jackdaw in bronze.
The dog of a visitor to my studio, once growled at the bird and abruptly lost interest in it on smelling it!
Eventually I cast the bird in bronze. The one on the photograph is number five of seven casts.
