About The Artwork

This piece is inspired by my childhood exploring the magical world of the ocean with my family in Maui. Some of my happiest memories are of discovering the vast, ethereal world of the sea and its magical creatures. I am drawn to oceanic themes and colors, and the regal jellyfish is one of my favorite subjects to encapsulate within borosilicate glass. It is my hope that both the bearer and the viewer of this piece can appreciate the wonder of the ocean’s inhabitants, and the beauty of creation that lies hidden within the depths of the sea. I consider my glass pendants to be miniature paintings, forged in fire. This piece is elaborated with a Gilson opal on the upper left corner of the piece. It is subtle, but gleams in natural sunlight! One of the properties of borosilicate glass is that certain colors change and emerge under different light. The pendant shows more greenish hues indoors, and it’s true vibrant blues emerge under natural light. The background of the pendant has been gently fumed with sterling silver and elaborated with clear dots, giving it a three dimensional appearance of background bubbles or sea stones. The inner diameter of the clasp is 1/4”, large enough for a chain, cord, or multiple strands of beading thread or wire.

Nicole Seaton is a flameworker who divides her time between Northern Nevada, California and Hawaii. Raised on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, Seaton gained an early appreciation for hours lost in creation during Tahoe's snowy winters. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, earning a dual major in Spanish and International Relations. Seaton studied abroad in Argentina and the Basque country, and she speaks Basque and Spanish. While she never took an art class in college, her artistic career began at the tender age of seven, when she discovered the bead store. Her astute grandmother realized that the inquisitive child was content for hours with a few beads and a ball of twine. After two decades of jewelry-making, Seaton decided to learn how to make her own beads. Today, Seaton ships her glass to every corner of the globe. JavaFlame Glass is currently shown in galleries throughout Northern Nevada and California. Although jewelry is her preferred medium, Seaton also makes small glass sculptures and digital art with closeups of her glass pieces. Seaton was a Burning Man artist for two decades, and feels that the event has been an intrinsic part of shaping her art and worldview.
