About The Artwork

This oceanic glass pendant is inspired by one of the marvels of the sea, the jellyfish. Each tendril of the jellyfish has been elaborated with a soft bubble at the tip. The piece has a soft, oceanic border and a multidimensional background with dreamy bubbles or sea stones behind the jellyfish. One of the interesting properties of borosilicate glass is that the striking, or color changing rods can appear to be different colors depending on the lighting. This piece has an underwater quality, with bluish green hues, but the true boro colors really emerge under natural sunlight. The pendant has been fumed with sterling silver, giving it a golden glow. That's the alchemical part of the operation, the sterling silver landing on the glass by way of fire somehow turns gold. It is my hope that the person who wears this piece and those who view it are inspire by the magical word that exists underneath the sea. I have always been facinated by oceanic life, and the jellyfish is one of my favorite and most challenging subjects to create. This piece has been kiln annealed both for added durability, and tto bring out the vibrant borosilicate colors that emerge at very high temperatures. The inner diameter of the clasp measures1/3", large enough for a chain, a cord other other beeading mediums such as silk or wire.

Nicole Seaton is a flameworker who divides her time between Northern Nevada, California and Hawaii. Raised on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, Seaton gained an early appreciation for hours lost in creation during Tahoe's snowy winters. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, earning a dual major in Spanish and International Relations. Seaton studied abroad in Argentina and the Basque country, and she speaks Basque and Spanish. While she never took an art class in college, her artistic career began at the tender age of seven, when she discovered the bead store. Her astute grandmother realized that the inquisitive child was content for hours with a few beads and a ball of twine. After two decades of jewelry-making, Seaton decided to learn how to make her own beads. Today, Seaton ships her glass to every corner of the globe. JavaFlame Glass is currently shown in galleries throughout Northern Nevada and California. Although jewelry is her preferred medium, Seaton also makes small glass sculptures and digital art with closeups of her glass pieces. Seaton was a Burning Man artist for two decades, and feels that the event has been an intrinsic part of shaping her art and worldview.
