About The Artwork

Maledetti is an artwork inspired by the myth of Medusa, one of the three Gorgons. Many people only see Medusa as a monster without knowing her sad story. Originally Medusa was a beautiful girl, priestess of the temple of Athena. It happened that Poseidon, seeing her, was seized by the desire to possess her and raped her inside the temple. Athena, horrified to see desecrated her temple cursed Medusa and transformed her into a monster: her wonderful hair became a tangle of snakes, her sweet voice became a terrifying scream and her gaze could turn anyone who looked into her eyes to stone. Medusa was only the victim of the whim and wrath of the gods. The peculiarity of the work are the snakes made entirely with recycled beer cans, the flakes have been cut and applied one by one. Her hair is made with recycled mirrors while her eyes with epoxy resin and copper leaf.

We are Federica Venier and Federico Grande, a couple in work and in life, self-taught sculptors since 2015. Our adventure was born almost for fun, not having much money to invest we started using low cost and recycled materials. Today's society is characterized by strong consumerism and many materials are wasted or thrown away, but we think it is important to enhance them by giving them a second life. Even with poor and waste materials you can create an extraordinary work. Our artworks are unique pieces made entirely by hand. The light interacts with them making them "alive", they change according to the time of day, the weather, the lighting and the point from which you look at it.
