About The Artwork

MOVING HOUSE is a one of a kind hanging sculpture in DaDa and Merz tradition. The theme was ‘Moving House’, ‘Home’ and the importance of settling down. A personal theme, for Anne has moved house about 25 times in her lifetime. The idea condensed in the remains of an old front door (with its door handles, and latch key still in the lock), and pages of poetry, all about home, living, leaving and moving house. The setup of the work ‘Moving House’ refers directly to the Dada Movement in the early 20th century (Kurt Schwitters and the DaDa movement discovered the hidden poetry in trivial objects or whatever material of little value that had been thrown away, and started to create assemblages and collages with them, which they then called Merz). The hanging sculpture ‘Moving House’ has also a Surrealistic layer: it has been part of a front door - to close off or open up a home - but it has now been detached from its function. What once was a front door, now hangs in the air, upside down, always open and impossible to close, even when you turn the key. And you can take it with you wherever you go. Material: wood, steel, aluminum, copper, paper, paint, varnish, high duty fishing line Measures: H 14 1/8” x W 8 1/16” x D 6 ¼” (H 36 x W 20 ½ x D 16 cm) The artwork is signed (Anne Klein H.), with year of making 2021 High duty hanging lines (which are easily made to measure) are included. They fit for ceilings up to 12 feet (3.70m).

Sculptors Cosé Manzano (Spain) and Anne Klein H. (the Netherlands) live and work in the South West of Spain. Both work in metal sculpture and installations. They established the KleinManzano art-collective in 2013 and their works can be found in collections in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Unites States. Artist's Statements: Cosé Manzano: 'Direct metal sculpting like hammering, cutting and welding is my preferred technique. My raw material is metal bar or metal sheet which I intuitively shape, bend and hammer into figurative sculpture. But I can also be captured by a found object or synthetic material. I find inspiration in animals and the land that surrounds us, and also in architecture and contemporary art. In my current work I focus on skin ‘transported’ to metal, and on metrical shapes I see in nature. Although we don’t literally work together on the same art works, working together as KleinManzano reinforces my direction, inner sense and reference in art.' Anne Klein H.: 'I make sculpture in various techniques: metal sheet and mixed media assemblage, using wood, glass, ceramics, metal and leather, often with found or re-used pieces. My work can have a symbolic or surrealist tendency. I get inspiration from social and personal issues (like women and society, or living in a foreign country), but also materials inspire me, as do nature and architecture. To me KleinManzano is a very motivating way of finding reference and structure, stand together and get deeper into art.'
