Nike is the Winged Greek Goddess who awards the victory wreath and who takes up position at the right side of Zeus, in his chariot, driving the horses to gallop faster. With Nike beside you, you will surely expand in abundance, success and love. I made this Nike so she could fly beside you. Never give up. The shape of the sculpture is that of a young woman. She is proud and not overtly sexual. The color yellow is willful; materials include marble dust, which is a remnant of the past, embedded in rabbit glue, which imparts speed and cleverness. The inside of the sculpture embraces the full spectrum. Nothing is missing as she sets off on her journey. Sculpture stands on heavy revolving base. Back of sculpture contains illustrated story. My art follows the female form through time, culture, history and myth. Since my early school days I decided it was rather upsetting that in history books, there were no stories about women. Consequently I devoted myself --from the beginning of my consciousness and creativity - to bring the stories and images of women to the forefront in my art and writing. I am interested in their beauty, strength, ability to spring back, courage and playfulness. The women in my extended family were no-nonsense ladies who all worked. I had good teachers. I am a multi-disciplined artist: I write, sculpt, print and paint. Most all of my work is done with paper.
