Against either open shacks of a seashell, or big flower leaves resembling such a shell, an ancient goddess with a smooth, beautiful body is depicted. The artist used the same plastic method, as in the theme of “The Birth of Venus.” The idea of the sculpture originated under the influence of a famous painting by Sandro Botticelli. In each case, the motif is the apotheosis of female beauty. The body of the goddess is truly heavenly perfect, overflowing with mature and perfect beauty of sublime and tender amorousness. The diminutiveness of the sculpture adds a touch of delicacy and poignancy.
