About The Artwork

'Pinstripe - Still Life' is a contemporary take on a traditional theme. The simplicity of the solitary piece of fruit - and apple cast in translucent Glass which rests on a substantially heavy platter signifying the importance of the apple, the Biblical forbidden fruit juxtaposed to the modernity and officious connotations of the Pinstripe pattern. The platter is kiln formed - hundreds of strips Bullseye glass are meticulously cut and assembled with the addition of preformed on-edge glass 'Pinstripe' detailing. The pinstripes are constructed with hundreds of coloured glass strands in Canary yellow with contrasting white, black and grey. Dichroic glass slivers woven into the pinstripe pattern create a special illuminating effect on the upturned rim of the platter. This unique glass sculpture makes a beautiful and beguiling centerpiece.

Amanda’s work is influenced by iconic contemporary art movements drawing inspiration from the simplicity of Bauhaus Modernism to the complexity of nonrepresentational Abstract Expressionism. She focuses on the expressive power of colour, intricate detail and pattern to achieve composition and chromatic harmony. These principles together with a fascination with the versatility of glass inspire her to create art in an abstract, geometric and linear style often combining and layering transparent, opalescent and dichroic glass to add texture and dimension. She is driven by the alchemy of transforming sheet glass by the application and control of heat into a unique contemporary artefact. Amanda’s work has depth and a tactile quality which seems to invite the viewer to touch the surface of the glass. She continuously experiments with new methods and skills with the philosophy that she is on as an ever-changing learning journey through the majestic medium of glass.
