About The Artwork

With delicate, feminine curves and soothing hues of blue and green, this one-of-a-kind stoneware clay sculpture captures the essence of tranquility and natural beauty. Embrace its subtle allure and experience the enchantment of authentic, raku art. The Raku Water Goddess was first thrown on the wheel, sculpted and fired to 1000°C. In the Raku firing, the goddess is pulled from the kiln glowing hot and placed in a can with newspaper and sawdust. The sculpture ignites the material and the smoke blackens the white stoneware clay and creates the rainbow of colors achieved only with the Raku Firing process.
