About The Artwork

This Intricately handmade sculpture considers the history and evolution of humankind, especially in light of the pandemic. The artist, Kate Ive, has carefully cast an anatomically correct human radius bone in environmentally-friendly Jesmonite. She has delicately hand-carved the bone to appear broken open. Inside nature is vining and growing deep in the bone. Sabre Tooth Moss grows abundantly below the surface. Kate is fascinated by the evolution of humans and our continuous impact on nature, other species, and the environment. This sculpture considers how we have absorbed our history, carrying our evolution and story in our bones, embedded in our DNA. Drawing parallels between early homo sapiens carving animal bones and reliquaries. The artwork is displayed like a precious relic on a flesh coloured velvet cushion/plinth. Materials: Hand-carved Jesmonite bone on a flesh coloured velvet covered memory foam cushioned plinth. The artwork comes with the cushioned plinth. This artwork is an edition of 12.
