About The Artwork
‘Satori’ is another facet of my search to express silence, balance and transience. This piece in particular can be regarded as a meditative totem, lent by its reductive minimalism and monochromaticity. Its title refers the enlightenment achieved by understanding silence and imperfection, the first step to satori in Japanese Buddhism. This piece was constructed by first sawing cross sections of an antique boat. The cross-sections were then reformed and assembled, then dipped in a graphite epoxy mixture. The composition evokes an opening bud, an ink gesture –both elements of the ephemeral nature of satori.

Being an artist was a given in my family, one in which my mother and grandfather were both committed artists. I spent every summer of my youth on the shores of Bois Blanc Island, a pristine jewel that would eventually inform and inspire my work. Currently I am focusing on wooden assemblages which are constructed of various woods and found objects. They are in preparation for three upcoming invitational shows.
