-Sun Wheel- Sculpture

From the series “Heliotropes”, "Sun Wheel" is a quest for something archetypal, both old and new, it incorporates elements such as lapis lazuli and the acorn cap, a natural shape that contains a pattern known as “the flower of life” a primordial symbol of creation. The elements are encapsulated in an elliptic pattern carved into the wood that suggests movement. These materials are chosen for their symbolic meaning and are representative of ideas of recurrence, patience, creation, purity and reflection. Heliotropism is a phenomenon observed in plants and in some animals where they orient themselves in response to the direction of sunlight. The term "heliotrope" is derived from the Greek words "helios," meaning sun, and "tropos," turning or bending. It is this gesture of being inclined towards the light, or rather its symbolic meaning what inspires this series.
