About The Artwork

One day I went to a DIY store and I was impressed by the number of things that are made of aluminum; bars, tubes, aluminum sheets of different textures, that's why I decided to do something different, something between painting and sculpture. I thought that aluminum is a soft, light metal, ideal for carrying out my ideas, but I discovered that aluminum is a difficult metal to weld. It was difficult until I learned how to weld tubes and thin aluminum sheets. “The Sleeping Kite” is made entirely by hand, with a blowtorch, scissors, metal files, hacksaw… I used aluminum sheets of different thicknesses, from 0.5 mm to 2 mm, hollow tubes of 6 mm, 8 mm, 12 mm, that is why the sculpture weighs only 2,3 kg. The artwork measures 65,5 cm x 90,2 cm x 1,8 cm and represents all the people who sleep and don't follow their dreams, and I believe that a person, like a kite, has to fly, follow their dreams to be happy. I used acrylic paint, pure and smooth colors that give satisfaction to see them. Depending on the light, the reliefs cast different shadows and make a spectacular effect. It took me several months to do it. In the end I had to fasten the thinnest aluminum sheets with screws, it was impossible to weld them without deforming. The sculpture is signed on the back and has a certificate of authenticity. I hope you like “The Sleeping Kite”, and I'm going to follow my dreams and carry out my thousands of projects.

I was born in 1975 in Bulgaria, in the small town of Lom, which is located on the bank of the Danube River. Since I was little I started to go to painting classes from the famous Bulgarian painter Ivan Manoilov. From him I learned a lot about the foundations of art; composition, colors, perspective, techniques... I finished high school in an institute specialized in art. There, with the help of the teachers, I made a personal exhibition of watercolors, and I won a contest in South Africa with the work "The launches in the Danube". Later I entered the “Saints Cyril and Methodius” university in Veliko Tarnovo, the ancient capital of Bulgaria. A very tough university, where I learned that 1% is talent and 99% is work. I specialized in sculpture with the famous sculptor Nenko Marov, and Professor Stefan Lazarov, founder of glyptic portraits in Bulgaria. There I learned the fundamental bases for sculpture, such as techniques, materials, molds, human anatomy... how to see the forms in their three dimensions. Shortly after finishing university, I moved to Madrid, Spain. Here I expanded my studies by doing a master's degree in web design and graphic design. In 2004, I had a personal exhibition of paintings in Madrid, at the Manolo Rojas gallery, in the Salamanca district. Currently, I am a member of the Association of Spanish Sculptors and Painters (AEPE), and I participate in contests and shared exhibitions. Now I dedicate myself to making paintings, casting bronze works and my new passion, making aluminum sculptures. I like to do abstract art works and I am inspired by sculptors like Constantin Brancusi, Amadeo Modigliani and Pablo Picasso. I have thousands of projects and sketches that I want to do.
