I am lucky to have spent many days from my childhood to the present on Southern California beaches. They inspired me to create colorful, expressionistic figures from the iconographic images of beach going women and men, from surfers to sunbathers. I chose as the form for these works, the totem poles, which originated from the Native peoples for the Pacific Northwest. Their meanings mirror those of the Totem Bathers: presenting a range of complex and symbolic mythologies.
They are built of solid poplar wood, carved and painted with dazzling colors of acrylic.
This work is painted on all sides and comes in two pieces for shipping: the totem bolts onto the base with two nuts & washers.
