About The Artwork

The NY Times Op-Ed writer, Charles Blow, said that this image of Whipped Peter should serve as a monument to the brutality of slavery. It is highlighted by a speech from Frederick Douglass who gave it to the Ladies Anti-Slavery Society in 1852. On the opposite side is an image entitled "The Soiling of Old Glory" along with an image of a lynching and convict leasing.
