About The Artwork

The magpie holds a profound personal significance, symbolising themes of security and protection. It represents a transformation from fear to reverence, embodying the journey from an old life to a new one. A guide, akin to an angelic presence. The contrast between its past as a source of fear and its current status as a revered symbol to mirror evolution and growth. The power of transformation and the potential for healing and renewal in life's journey.

“When I create something, I don’t go into it with a specific theme or message in mind – at least, not on any level that I am conscious of. I work from the people I meet, the places I go, the ideas we express. The image comes to me then and, as I work, the theme sometimes manifests itself. What has been emerging recently is something that tells a story about who I am, who I’ve become, and what I’ve overcome. Sometimes, though, I make art for the sake of making art.” I was born and raised in and around Fremantle, Western Australia. My formative years were a time of constant change – never finding roots in one place before moving on to adapt to another. I don’t know how long I’ve been drawing, but I assume it’s been since I developed the fine motor skills needed to hold a pencil. With advances in technology, I have adapted my drawing skills to the digital medium. Making digital art engages all aspects of my personality, allowing for a degree of creative and cognitive expression that isn’t possible for me with any other medium. During my formal training, I had the opportunity to study under Gregory Pryor, under whom I became adept with acrylic, oil, and water paints. I have since learned to apply these techniques to digital art as well. I work in my other field of passion – education. After a decade marred with turmoil, I have found peace, freedom, and healing in my life. I now live in Belmont, Western Australia, where my partner and I have found our roots together.
