About The Artwork

Figurative has always been my most important and satisfying subject in creating my paintings. Being a female and a part of the gender equality issue all my life in general society and as a female artist, it is important that I use my voice visually to add a vision to our plight and history. It is my hope that, using the feeling of burn, that viewers realize how much effort, no matter what the job, that females put a lot of thought and energy in their pursuits. Feeling the burn is important for all of us when pursuing our dreams, our voice. It means using your whole body and mind in your quest to have your best life. The dancer, so determined to keep her schedule up so that her body is limber and able to complete the moves that are required is feeling the burn that is part of the process of that dedication and passion. This digital fine art painting is created with patterns, shapes, and bold color to encourage the everyone to continue the work to fulfill their passion in life. Recently, in the last year, I have added creating some of my art using a painting app. Not only because I wanted to try another medium, digital, and because I could create a painting more quickly, more visually varied and less expensive time wise and material expense. And offer them as only prints and less expensively. We are a digital society now and I enjoy creating using both methods.

As a mixed media, abstract painter my art taps into the personal growth process of our emotional & philosophical concerns about the issues we face today. They are derived from my own experiences & outcomes. Through the use of repeating patterns, mark making, texture, collage & acrylic paint on canvas, I try excite the viewer visually, to receive a message of encouragment and/or empowerment to continue on their path to their truth/voice. The bold, colorful paintings using organic shapes, patterns and texture, with collage I create myself, instills a delightful spirit to the viewer while encouraging and empowering them to follow their inner voice. After college I transferred all of the knowledge that I gained from my earlier fabric exploits and experiments in my youth to my passion for painting using and experimenting with acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Nazareth College, Rochester, NY I was awarded The Gertrude Ford Award, recognizing one student for excellence in art at graduation. And one of my paintings hangs in their permanent collection. After graduation from college my painting,Women in Art, Where Are They? took 1st place in a 13 county, juried art exhibit at the Cayuga Museum of History and Art in Auburn, NY. And I was off and running. I was just awarded my 3rd Arts and Science Council (ASC) Grant for 2023 for admission into a comprehensive promotion and networking collective for 6 months. As well, my paintings have been chosen in 20 national, juried online exhibitions and 2 international juried exhibits in 2022. 100 Square Inches of Art: 4th Annual Juried Exhibition in November 2022 at 3 Square Art, Fort Collins, CO, the painting, Weather System Upon Us, was awarded honorable mention by Juror: Mary Jane Edwards, Executive Director of the Jentel Foundation. And Artsy.net featured 2 of my paintings in 6 of their emails during the months of Aug.-Sept. 2022. Women’s Caucus of Art has chosen my paintings to appear in their publications 4 times since 2014. In 2021, I appeared a 5th time in their newest publication following the juried exhibition in the CAB Gallery at UNCWilmington. In August 2021, I appeared in a national juried publication called Wild Lands with her painting, “Stretch the Boundaries”.
