In Women of the Harem, I embark on a visual journey that unveils the nuanced lives of Iranian women within the Royal court, specifically the Harem, during the Qajar period. Employing digital decoupage techniques with a modern and contemporary vision, this collection seeks to reimagine and reinterpret the experiences, challenges, and situations faced by women serving as wives and lovers to the king. The Qajar era was characterized by a confluence of tradition, political intricacies, and cultural transformations, particularly within the intimate confines of the Harem. "Women of the Harem" employs digital decoupage to blend and layer visual elements, creating a rich and textured narrative that transcends the conventional depictions of this historical period. Digital decoupage, as a modern interpretation of traditional collage, allows for a seamless integration of diverse visual elements. Through this technique, I aim to capture the intricacies of life in the Harem, presenting a visual tapestry that highlights the relationships, aspirations, and challenges faced by these women as they navigated the complex dynamics of the royal court. Women of the Harem is not only an artistic endeavour but a reinterpretation of history through a modern lens. It seeks to breathe new life into the stories of these women, challenging historical stereotypes and inviting viewers to reconsider the roles and agency of women in the Harem. The digital medium allows for a dynamic and immersive experience, fostering a reflection on the intersections of power, desire, and individuality within the context of the Qajar period.
