Above the Clouds Series 2 Print

About the new series of my paintings:   'Above the Clouds' I always enjoy  seeing  light coming through transparent objects creating the most incredible colourful images and pattern.  For instance, when light is shining at green leaves from behind, it  makes the colours so much more vividly clear, subtle and very delicate patterns to evolve.  I want to create such images and patterns of light in my own paintings, and in particular here in this new series of works ‘Above the Clouds’. The original concept of my paintings was based on our longing to reach ever higher levels of sensitivity.  Here,  I imagine to be able to go up and reach the sphere way above the the level of clouds, where we can see and feel another dimension of space and time and where we would be able to experience completely new sense impressions.  This clarity of vision, be it of the blue skies or under particular lights are not only vivid in colour but also invigorating to our very existence,  despite the occasionally triste and rainy world of reality below.  This imaginary existence of life above the clouds looks so peaceful and seems to offer endless light, joy and hope despite our mundane everyday life. I would like to express that feeling of exuberance and imaginary possibilities beyond the clouds, projected down to our everyday life on terra firma.  I want to show in my paintings 'Above the Clouds' not a juxtaposition of reality and imagination, but a point of merger between the two. A vision of existence of light and peaceful happiness inspite of any hardship or difficulties we may have to endure in our everyday life.  My paintings are created  from within, with a belief in myself and a conviction of being able to overcome adversities here and now.  My paintings are intended to offer strength and endurance not only to myself, but to the onlooker in my exhibitions in general.  As I translate my feelings and images of my mind onto abstract surfaces,  a new form of reality emanates. In my art work on aluminium panels, I used semi-transparent acrylic paint, which I make with my own pigments.  I apply layer upon layer of paint,, while intermittently drawing lines and patterns with a pencil, thereby creating images of space that I have in my imagination. As for my works on wooden panels, I first prime the panels with gesso and then I only use black materials and colours such as pencils, charcoal and other to draw clouds and express my ideas of light in the sky.  While the smooth white background creates subtle colouring, the charcoal creates depth and more intense impressions in those drawings.  On another level,  I apply free moving lines in my drawings to create vitality and subtlety. In some of my creative art I  also use glass beads, which can catch the light and reflect a beautiful shine to enhance my ideas of space and time in this series of works entitled 'Above the Clouds'.
