Back when I was a sportswriter my idol and muse was a Sports Illustrated writer named Dan Jenkins. Jenkins wrote an article about his salad days playing at a public course in Fort Worth named Goat Hills. I have borrowed this fictional golf course for the title of this drawing. I drew this to illustrate a golf article I wrote for a local magazine. When I came across it recently I thought it might look nice framed on a wall, among the obligatory photographs of grinning foursomes in their sunburns and polo shirts and plaid pants, so here it is. It was Jenkins who taught me that golf should be experienced as comedy, not tragedy, however tragic those duck hooks and trap shots feel in the moment.
