VIEW IN MY ROOM
Ships of Admiral Halsey's 3rd Fleet during the battle for the Philippines in December, 1944. Task Group 38.3 returns to it's advance base at Ulithi Atoll, in line-ahead led by the light carrier USS Langley (CVL-27) and Essex class fleet carrier USS Ticonderoga (CV-14). The term "hauling ass with Halsey" refers to two incidents where the men under Fleet Admiral William "Bull" Halsey had to travel at flank speed in order to accomplish their mission: the first was the Marshall Islands raid of February 1942 by the USS Enterprise task group, and the second was during the battle of Leyte Gulf by the 3rd Fleet during the liberation of the Philippines.
