LIGHT BREAKING THROUGH Print

A friend took this picture and had it framed. The light streaming through was captured in such a striking way, that I wanted to try and capture it using charcoal. I was thinking of showing both but decided I would leave that to the imagination of the individual. My intentions were never to try and reproduce the photograph. The essence, the feeling of light travelling through, rather than around. I like drawing with charcoal and playing with shadows, layers and in many instances it is not what you draw but rather the hint of something that would be there but the minds eye sees it. Photographers use shutter speed, light, filters and the magic is captured. Charcoal can create some of those effects or the illusion and in so doing gives a different interpretation or feeling one might have from looking at the photograph. I hope the viewer feels there is depth to the drawing much like the 3D effect of the photograph.
