Sea sponge 2019 Print

Sea sponge was inspired by my beach visits to Mettams Pool in Perth where after storms sea sponges and other things from the ocean are washed up. The challenge of depicting these intricate forms without the use of a camera appeals to me and represents a challenge that never goes away with practice. The Artist Lia Mc Knight is an inspiration to me as her practice is also connected with observing and depicting natural forms. I hope viewers will get a sense of the ocean and our connection to nature through this piece. The medium of pencil on paper is one of my favourite and suited the detailed work this subjected seemed to need.
