I need to use my hands to build strokes first, then letters, words, sentences. It's a matter of mental health. Everything begins with a pen, a pencil, a paper, a bit of ink... looking for a rhythm, a cadence, warming up... An hour later I'm already inside. My arm is released, my mind is concentrated and I can be hours filling up sheets of paper with obsessive, repetitive strokes, without thinking of anything else. Then I am happy. And I'm exhausted. My work is fundamentally temperamental. I try to be consistent, work every day - "Nulla dies sine linea" - because it is important to maintain confidence and improve technique (bla, bla..). But the truth is that I throw myself at the desk, especially when I'm motivated. I do not consider myself a formal calligrapher; I appreciate and take advantage of the expressive power of the stroke, above styles and rules. I write as I am. I am vehement and energetic, and that translates to my strokes. My favorite tool is the pointed brush, because it picks up each and every nuance of the movement, of the moment, of my mood, and leaves them on paper. The brush is sensitive, perceives everything and reveals everything. Manual writing matures with the person. Our character and way of thinking express ourselves, too. To mature, to be able to express myself as a child. That is my fight and my conflict. The more conscious the more free. The more free, more spontaneous. The more spontaneous, the more sincere. For me, art is freedom. Expression. Need. Beauty. Reflection. Growth. Any gesture, word or idea capable of inspiring another person.
