About The Artwork

One of 13 paintings by Angelo Liberati inspired by 13 Catullus' poems. Excerpt from Catullus' poem: "Iam ver egelidos..."

Angelo Liberati was born in Frascati (Rome) in 1946, on the second of June. The meeting (Rome, 1964) with the italo-argentinian painter Silvio Benedetto was an opportunity for him to learn the painting techniques, thanks to habitual visiting of the studio of the artist, in Via del Babuino, an historic street between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna. This was his favourite route to frequent the leading galleries in the sixties (Galleria Due Mondi, Il Fante di Spade, L'Attico, La Nuova Pesa). In 1970 he went to live in Sardinia, where, in contact with Sardinian neo-avant-gardes (Galleria Sinibaldi, Il Basilisco, Arte Duchamp), he developed a poetics which combines rediscovery of the pictorial qualities with pop techniques (décollage and collage). Programmaticly, his graphic works are influenced by Renzo Vespignani, close friend for almost 20 years.
