About The Artwork

Do you sometimes feel trapped? You have everything to be happy yet you feel limited in your abilities. That is my question to the viewer of this work. I portray this question by taking a beautiful young woman in a nice dress. She is clearly of well-to-do descent and has inherited from birth that anything is possible in her life. She can reach the highest peaks and, as I elaborate here, explore the heavens together with the birds. But, and this but have many of us, she is in a cage. This cage can be anything. For example, she cannot go with the partner she loves. She may be under constant social pressure. She also, like many women, can never break through the glass ceiling that man-centered society has placed over her. It really can be anything that makes you feel confined as if in a cage. A cage, in this case a bird cage, around which birds fly lustily in the air. Read a cage in which you sit and around which everyone else is just doing their thing and which you think is not limited in their abilities. This work was created using various techniques and intended to be printed in an open edition on various materials and sizes. I always make my own proofs in my studio on ordinary paper and a limited edition on high-quality art print paper. This limited edition depicts for me what I had in mind, these prints are the only copies dated and signed. Printed on Fine Art paper, Hahnemühle Bamboo 290 gsm · 90% bamboo fibres · 10% cotton · natural white, image size 40x40cm + 5 cm of white margin for easier framing. Dated and signed in the white margin. For different sizes and materials please contact on: jan.keteleer@janke.be

From his interests in both classical art and modern / contemporary art, Belgian artist Jan Keteleer (JanKé) works with different styles. Ancient art is one of his interests, but you can also find examples of his work in pop art and impressionism. If you browse through Jan Keteleer's portfolio, you will find beautiful nature scenes, pictures of animals or pop art-based nudes. After years working in commercial photography, he turned his interest to artistic black and white photography. Projects such as Speecless, Silent Dialogues and Roots with Taboo brought him fame. He was inspired by the problems of the multicultural society in Belgium, the coexistence of different national and ethnic groups, the issue of the language barrier and the lack of dialogue between the "old" (the native population) and the "new" Belgians (the immigrants). JanKé attaches great importance to the social significance of his works and integrates them into the context of public space (stations, airports and public transport), prompting the viewer to react and reflect. His projects have received the support of the organization Sprakeloos, which aims to use art to provoke discussion on social issues. He had numerous exhibitions in Belgium (in Antwerp, Bruges, Lier, Leuven and Ghent), in the U.S. (in Dallas and San Francisco) and in Poland (in Krakow).
