About The Artwork

A source of inspiration for Natassa Sarris has been causation in art or the point of origin of the style in itself, which she felt to hover between consciousness and the unconscious, bridging or simultaneously interweaving consensus between individuality and collectivity. For Natassa Sarris the realisation that painting is an ascetic pathway of self-knowledge came at a very early stage. A primary feature has been the philosophy itself of the act of painting as a bridgehead or intermediary between more profound observations and interdependences which from time to time she herself has engaged with as reflections on structures and analogies between nature and life. Her reflections, from the earliest years down to the present, have continued to revolve around movements of planes and of surfaces by means of geometrical and biomorphic patterns which can visually and by alternations in the technique of rhythm signal them and render them in terms of expression. The reflections of Natassa Sarris do not centre only on causations and phenomena, but on their configured reflections relating to a deeper stratum of interdependences of nature with life and of the past with the present. By means of the organicity of flora with fauna, by means also of symbols and allegories which express our everyday needs for communication or feelings and desires, the ‘alley’ of her works is represented as a route of life and thinking, but also as a means of passage between the ‘self’ and nature, as well as between everyday routine, myth, and imagination. *The artwork is framed and has museum quality glass

From her earliest years, Natassa Sarris expressed, with particular tenacity, but also with impressive abilities, a penchant for painting. Although she studied Economic Sciences and her successful professional career involved her in Business, her great interest was always claimed by the Visual Arts, which she never abandoned. She has travelled to many parts of the world and visited a multitude of museums, thus acquainting herself at first hand with the art both of the East and the West. She has also, up to the present, attended seminars on the Philosophy of Art and has served an ‘apprenticeship’ in a number of the studios of prominent artists during the course of her trips abroad, where, with the encouragement of her teachers, she has mounted most of her exhibitions, with great success and an enthusiastic reception by the public, as, for example, in Korea, Nepal, China, Japan, India, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and elsewhere. As becomes apparent from her works, her art is for her a way of life and an approach to the world, as well as a mode of discipline, asceticism and deepening of her exploration of the visible as well as the unseen causations which determine nature and mankind, which is an integral part of it. The presentation of representative works by her at the Genesis Gallery (19/01/2023 – 11/02/2023) was her first solo exhibition in Greece and has since have participated in further six group exhibitions.
