About The Artwork

I am a big fan of Saul Lewitt. Instead of leaving instructions for assembling squares on a wall, I write these instructions in a computer script. In this case, repeatedly placing grey squares on a canvas. The canvas is covered by a random pattern made of some angular lines. These lines are almost completely disappearing in a pink and orange warm texture. Finally, this texture is corroded on it's edge by the complementary colors of the orange and the pink. The intent here is to tell a story of someone trying to keep things organised, forgetting that the most attractive trait he has is the chaos that wells up in between. I research how giclé printing can create a velvety texture when the paper is thick and absorbant like the one used in water color. In this case the choice is an awagami japanese one.

Thibaut researches how to control random feeds of numbers to create meaningful abstract compositions. With the Atelier Aléatoire, he adds a new dimension to this body of work: introducing an interactive questionnaire to compose soul portraits of collectors and passer-by, at a specific moment, imprinting in it the very mood of its epoch. For the Paris Book Fair (Livre Paris) in 2017 he presented an installation with a large format printer where he invited 80 visitors to draw their portraits. In Bangkok (2011,2015) he explored materials like fabric, glass, wood, and metal for his prints and light sculptures. He created a labyrinth of lights for Architect 2013 and the “ Ambulatory of the 5 Eléments” in a lounge designed by Christian Lacroix. A retrospective of his research was held at RCAC. He was a resident artist and lecturer at the Chulalongkorn University. Thibaut now lives in Prague.
