When Shane goes on a horse , Joey shouts after him : " Dad has a deal for you! And your mother wants you. I know that . " The film ends with Joey who shouts : " Shane ! Shane ! Come back! " . Due to the ambiguous nature of the last scene , it remains unclear whether Shane survived the injury or not .
