Drawing has been Malcolm's constant pleasure since an early age. Sketch books, pencils and marker pens accompanied him everywhere while growing up. As a young student graphic art attracted him and he developed his love for bold shapes and colour. With his love for nature, the land and sea Malcolm's painting developed into an impressionist style. Often painting outdoors en plein air. Influences from this early stage include Camille Pissaro, Claude Monet and the post-impressionists like Paul Cezanne. Over the years his painting has evolved. The strong influence of the South African landscape is evident. Especially the Karoo region, Eastern Cape veldt and his beloved coast. You will see this in the strong compositions, bold shapes and generous paint in his work. Loose and expressive he lets the brushwork suggest details to the viewer. Malcolm finds inspiration in twentieth century impressionists especially the California Impressionist movement. Artists such as Edgar Payne, John Carlsson and Kevin Macpherson are significant. Also South African landscape artists such as Gregoire Boonzaier and J.H. Pierneef. A strong believer in the creative forces in our universe leads Malcolm to a positive outlook in his work. This belief in art has led Malcolm to also teach art to a wide audience. "Despite worldwide issues and anxiety there is tremendous power in art to uplift the human spirit". Malcolm's paintings are found in local and international collections. Education and Profile: Studied art at Begravia Art Centre, East London.
