Summer travelers to the San Juan Mountains in Southwestern Colorado love to ride the Denver, Silverton & Rio Grande (DS&RG) steam train between Silverton and Durango. A special train inspired by the Polar Express movie runs during the holiday season. I spotted the train just before it's morning run and found the billowing steam and snowy peaks in the background were stirring up some holiday spirit. We took the train with our grandson a few years ago and enjoyed singing along to holiday songs and a mug of hot cocoa on the way.

I'm a retired communication professor pursuing a new avocation as a watercolor artist. In my travels across the United States and around the world I pause for a 4x6 color sketch whenever an inspirational moment takes hold and I have my portable art pack at hand.
