This image is a depiction of the ancient Egyptian cobra deity which represented the entire kingdom of Lower Egypt. they believed that this goddess swallowed the sun each winter and like a snake shedding its skin, it was reborn from her in the spring. A citadel has replaced the snake's coils to represent the kingdom, while the sun sets in her throat.
