About The Artwork

Greek and Minoan people, many thousands of years ago, created wonderfully simple, graphic, lively images of people and animals, one of which inspired this cast glass plaque. The artwork started as a sketch standing by a display case in Heraklion's amazing museum. I re-drew and further abstracted this drawing in creating this artwork, trying to work out how the original artist used simple, single strokes in creating his or her image on a clay pot. Later, at home, I recreated the drawing directly onto a glass slab using bronze-laden ink, which burns away in the kiln as the glass is cast, leaving fine lines of bronze embedded within and staining the glass panel itself. I've then worked the image further before laminating it. It's ready to hang, where it will gather and reflect light, seemingly brighter than its surroundings.
