I believe the beauty of soccer lies in its simplicity; it requires very little to play. It can be adorned with all the gold in the world and transformed into a grand spectacle, but its true charm comes from the passion of the street, from the 'neighborhood pichanga.' In Chile, we use the Quechua word 'kancha' to refer to the place where soccer is played, as it means 'closed area' in Quechua. The field, then, is primarily a meeting place, an intervention in the territory that seeks to bring us together. That's what's truly beautiful. Everything else is just spectacle, requiring lights and decorations, but it interests me little. I prefer the gray, the muted, the rarely seen.
